Free Online Based OCR Service - Convert Image To Text

In my last blog post about OCR, I mentioned some free OCR software. Now I would like to share two (2) online based OCR tools which has similar abilities with the OCR software. As you know Optical Character Recognition or OCR tool is useful to convert images to text, so if you have scanned documents (in jpg,gif,bmp or other image formats) you can convert them to text easily, you don't have to re-type all characters in microsoft word.

Anyway, the conversions will not always perfect (depends on many factors, such as image quality), so I recommend you to re-check after the conversion. But the result is not bad either and most importantly these free OCR tools are free.

Free OCR Software Download – Freeware Apps To Convert Image To Text

How do I convert images to text? If it is the case you can use OCR software. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a tool to help you to extract any characters (words, alphabet, dots, numbers, etc.) from images, convert images or pictures or photos to editable text and then you can save it to document formats such as Microsoft word, PDF, txt, rtf, html and etc.

So if you have images from scanned documents or photo shots (jpeg, tiff, gif and bmp formats), you don’t have to re-type all characters from images to your office program, just use OCR software to convert image to text. However, the conversions are not always perfect, it will depend on image’s quality. But don’t worry; because the text is editable thus you can correct them manually.

How To Change Facebook Background With Your Own Picture

How to change facebook background? It's fun to play with this popular social site but it's kind of boring if we faced the same default facebook background everyday. In the previous post about FB tips and tricks I already mentioned about how to change facebook layout and styles, actually the technique is almost the same, we still use the mozilla styler add-on, but now we will try to change the background with your own picture / wallpapers.

Ok, enough with the babbling, let's begin the tutorial about how to change facebook background.

1. First, make sure that your browser is Mozilla Firefox and you have installed the Styler Add-On.

2. Make sure you have installed and apply one of facebook layout/style. In this tutorial we'll use Facebook Windows 7 Black Edition.

3. Go to your facebook page

4. Find picture / wallpaper on your computer, and decide what picture you want to be used for your facebook background, and then open the image with your browser.
For example, here I choose a National Geographic Wallpaper and open it with my browser:


Take a look on the address bar, you'll see the picture's url (location address). As alternative, you can also put your picture in image hosting or your server.

5. Copy the picture's url

6. Now, back to your facebook page.

7. Open the "style manager". Click on the "S" symbol on the bottom right of your browser window - then choose "manage styles..."


8. Select "Facebook Windows 7 Black Edition" and then click "Edit"

9. Find the default background url, it would be something like this:

background: url("http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3729/windows7qs.jpg") #000000 top left fixed no-repeat !important;

10. Change the default background URL (http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3729/windows7qs.jpg) with your picture's URL (ie. file:///F:/Wallpaper/NatGeo%20Wallpaper1.jpg).

11. To make the wallpaper fit in your browser window, make sure you change the image alignment, top with center, and left with center

So, after you changed the style, the result will be like this :

12. Click preview to see changes and save to apply the changes to your facebook style.


Done! Now you have successfully changed your facebook background with your own picture.

4. Type your group name, description and category (required). Recent news, office, email, website, street, city/town are optional.


5. On the Step 2, customize the group and set the rules or access. If you're not sure you can Skip this step.


6. Click Save or Skip

7. Now you can invite your friends to join the group


Click Back To "your group name" to see your group page. You can access customization menu on the top left sidebar of your group page.

How To Create A Bootable Linux Ubuntu USB Flash/Thumb Drive? The Easy Way!

How to create a bootable Ubuntu USB Flash / Thumb Drive? Linux Ubuntu is indeed a good alternative for free operating systems as a replacement for microsoft windows. After you download the ISO file, then your first problem is how to make it bootable. On Ubuntu official site they describe well about the process, from downloading to installation. But if you are new to this open source OS maybe the tutorial is too confusing.

To make a bootable Linux Ubuntu setup you cannot simply open the ISO file then extract / copy the files directly to the media (USB drive/CD/DVD), but you will need a tool to make it work. It is simple to burn ISO to CD or DVD, you can use free burner tool such as InfraRecorder. But how to copy the ISO file and make it a bootable setup on USB drive? Here I provide you the easy tutorial to create a bootable Ubuntu USB Flash/Thumb drive as the solution for the first step after you download the Ubuntu ISO file. Note: this tutorial is only for windows XP or Vista.

What will you need?
1. One (1) blank USB Flash / Pen / Thumb Drive (minimum has 1 GB storage size)
2. Ubuntu 9.10 ISO file
3. UNetbootin windows application, download it here

How to Create a Bootable Ubuntu Flash Drive

1. Plug your USB flash drive to your computer
2. Run Unetbootin
3. Check (tick) the "Diskimage" option and make sure you select ISO value on the drop down option.



4. Browse the location on where the Linux Ubuntu ISO file is – then select Ubuntu ISO file.
5. Make sure you have selected "USB Drive" value on the Type option and select the right USB drive location.
6. Now click OK button
7. Please wait the installation process.



8. Once the installation finished, UNetbootin will ask you to reboot your computer or to exit.



That’s it, now the bootable Ubuntu USB flash drive is ready to use. Click exit if you want to restart computer manually or you want to use the USB drive on other computer. How To Change Facebook Layout, Style and Background

How to change facebook layout or background? Can you do that? Yes of course, you can alter your facebook wallpaper / template to meet your style. To do this trick, now there is an add-on for mozilla firefox which called "stylish" to change facebook styles, so basically you don’t use facebook application to change the layout. Okay, now let’s try it.

1. Start your mozilla firefox browser, if you don’t have it please download from its official site.

2. Install Stylish Add-On then restart your browser.



3. Go to facebook styles page and choose your favorite styles / layout / background.



4. Click "Install with Stylish"



5. Done! Now go to your facebook page and see the result.

You can manage facebook layout or combine styles. Styler manager enable you to manage : activate/deactivate, edit and uninstall current styles. To manage styles click the "S" symbol on the bottom right of your browser window.



To combine the styles, for example you have installed the "Facebook Windows7 Black Edition", now combine the layout with "Facebook Cool Blue Windows 7 Taskbar" style. And here is the result :
